A man struck by a hit-and-run vehicle in Long Beach a week ago has died, hospital officials told police Tuesday.

Officers responding around 10:15 p.m. Dec. 21 to a traffic crash involving a vehicle and pedestrian in the area of Atherton Street and Montair Avenue found the pedestrian in the roadway suffering from critical injuries, the Long Beach Police Department reported.

He was crossing northbound on Atherton Street, outside the crosswalk, when a westbound silver sedan struck him and fled the scene before police arrived, authorities said.

Paramedics rushed the man to an area hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.

Police said detectives were notified Tuesday that the man died from his injures on Monday.

The Long Beach Police Department’s Collision Investigation Detail urged anyone with any information regarding the crash to call them at 562-570-7355 or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS (8477).
