A man allegedly shot his brother-in-law to death when he intervened in a domestic dispute between the victim and his sister, authorities said Saturday.
Officers responded about 3:50 p.m. Friday to a report of a shooting at an apartment in the 12000 block of Trask Avenue, according to Detective Sgt. Evan Beresford of the Garden Grove Police Department.
When they arrived, they had everyone step outside and searched the apartment, Beresford said.
“During the search officers located a 26-year-old male victim, who had suffered a single gunshot wound to the upper torso,” Beresford said.

Paramedics took the victim to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, the sergeant said.
“During the investigation detectives learned that the suspect, Heriberto Martinez of Garden Grove, had intervened in a physical domestic dispute between his sister and her husband, while inside the apartment,” Beresford said. “During the time the suspect intervened he pulled out a semi-automatic handgun and shot the victim in the upper torso.”
Detectives interviewed the 24-year-old suspect and released him pending further investigation, the sergeant said.
