A 33-year-old homeless man was found shot to death near railroad tracks in Pomona, authorities said Monday.

Officers responded to a report of a person with a gunshot wound at 6:26 p.m. Sunday near train tracks in the 1600 block of West Second Street, said Pomona police Sgt. Iain Miller.

“Officers located the male adult victim near the tracks and he was pronounced deceased by members of the LACo Fire Department,” Miller said. The man was initially described a Pomona resident.

The man was later identified as Javier Grijalva, who was homeless at the time of the shooting, according to the coroner’s office.

“At this time, the suspect in the shooting is unknown and the motive for the killing is also unknown,” Miller said.

Anyone with information was asked to call Pomona police at 909-620-2085 or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS(8477).
