A 19-year-old man was charged Thursday with gunning down an 18-year-old man at a Santa Ana nightclub last month.
Mateo Jerome Paul was charged with one count of murder with a sentencing enhancement for the discharge of a gun causing deathl.
Paul was accused of killing Zion Gonzlaez of Moreno Valley on Jan. 22.
Officers were dispatched at 10:40 p.m. Jan. 22 to the nightclub in the 300 block of West Fifth Street, police said.
The shooting occurred during the establishment’s open mic night, police said.
Paramedics pronounced Gonzalez dead at the scene.
