One woman died and two others were critically injured Saturday evening when a sedan crashed into a tree in Woodland Hills.

The crash was reported at 10:09 p.m. in the 22000 block of West Dumetz Road, at Topanga Canyon Boulevard, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey.

Firefighters used hydraulic tools to free two patients from the wreckage and provide care for them, Humphrey said. One woman was found outside the vehicle.

Two of the women were rushed to a regional trauma center in critical condition and the other woman was pronounced dead at the scene, he said.

All three were described by Humphrey as “young.” He did not specify whether the deceased woman had been freed from the wreckage or found on the ground. Her name was not released.

Motorists were urged to avoid the area during the crash investigation, Humphrey said.

The cause of the crash was under investigation.
