A homeless man who allegedly attacked a security guard near a Riverside shopping center remained jailed Sunday.
Police responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call at around 9:45 p.m. Thursday in the 4800 block of La Sierra Avenue, according to the Riverside Police Department. When officers arrived, they found a security guard who had been battered and was suffering injuries to his face and head.
The guard was taken to a hospital for treatment of his injuries, which were not considered life-threatening.
The suspect, 28-year-old Emmanuel Erim, was arrested shortly after the attack near the intersection of La Sierra Avenue and Pierce Street and booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center on suspicion of felony battery, according to inmate records. He was being held in lieu of $25,000.
Police said Erim has a criminal history, including assault against police officers.
