A fire that erupted Monday in a Desert Hot Springs residence damaged a room before crews stopped it.

The blaze was reported about 9:55 a.m. in the 71000 block of Aurora Road, just off of Newport Road, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

Fire officials said multiple engine crews were sent to the location and encountered flames toward the back of the single-story house.

Firefighters accessed the property and contained the fire to a single room, according to officials.

It was unclear whether the home was occupied. Initial 911 reports indicated that the fire may have been intentionally set, but that was unconfirmed.

Crews were expected to finish mopping up around 11:30 a.m.
