Police Thursday sought the public’s help to identify a hit-and-run driver who left a 75-year-old man fatally injured in South Los Angeles.

Hector Castro Hirales was walking westbound in an unmarked crosswalk across Trinity Street, near Gilbert Lindsay Recreation Center, about 9:15 p.m. on April 27 when he was struck by a silver compact SUV that turned left onto Trinity from West 41st Place, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The vehicle fled the scene northbound on Trinity following the collision.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics were called to the scene and took Hirales to a hospital, where he died of his wounds.

Anyone with information on the collision was asked to contact LAPD Detective Juan Mendoza at 213-833-3713
