One person was killed and two others were injured when a suspected drunk driver slammed into another vehicle on Highway 111 in Palm Springs early Sunday morning, authorities said.
The crash occurred at around 1:30 a.m. north of Gateway Drive, according to the Palm Springs Police Department.
Investigators said both vehicles were traveling in the same direction on the highway when the suspect vehicle rear-ended the victims’ vehicle at a very high speed.
A 56-year-old male passenger in the second vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene while the 55-year-old female driver was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
The driver of the suspect vehicle, Jackson George, 34, of Whitewater, was taken to a hospital with minor injuries and was believed to be driving while intoxicated, according to police.
Authorities said the suspect had a previous out-of-state arrest related to DUI and would be booked into jail on suspicion of murder once he is released from the hospital.
