A brush fire broke out Tuesday south of French Valley Airport, blackening roughly two acres and threatening to jump a road as crews worked to contain it.
The blaze was reported at 4:25 p.m. in the area of Brookdale Way and Fairfield Heights Street, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
A Cal Fire water-dropping helicopter crew leaving a separate blaze just east of Temecula was the first to reach the location and immediately self-initiated runs on the fire, which was centered in a field between roads, according to reports from the scene.
The water drops slowed the fire’s advance as a half-dozen engine crews arrived and began establishing containment lines on the eastern and western flanks of the blaze.
Firefighters prevented the flames from jumping a road and threatening residences.
As of 4:50 p.m., firefighters were making steady progress encircling the fire.
There was no immediate word on how it might have started.
