Felony charges are expected to be filed Tuesday against a man suspected of gunning down a 38-year-old Riverside resident during an attack in Moreno Valley.

Jerome Roy Jackson, 33, of Fontana was arrested Saturday following a Riverside County Sheriff’s Department investigation into the slaying of Jason Williams.

Jackson was booked into the Benoit Detention Center in Indio on suspicion of murder. He’s being held in lieu of $1 million bail.

The case was submitted to the District Attorney’s Office for review.

According to sheriff’s Sgt. Ben Ramirez, about 12:10 p.m. Saturday, Jackson confronted Williams in the area of Tea Rose and Blue Lupin lanes, at the south edge of Box Springs Canyon.

Ramirez alleged that the suspect allegedly opened fire with a handgun, shooting the victim several times.

A possible motive was not disclosed.

Witnesses called 911, and patrol deputies arrived within a couple of minutes, immediately arresting Jackson.

Ramirez said that paramedics attempted life-saving measures on Williams, but he died at the scene.

There was no word on how the victim and suspect were acquainted.

Background information on Jackson was unavailable.
