A 47-year-old woman drowned while taking an evening swim in a country club pool in Beaumont, authorities said Thursday.

Cecilia Ghosh of Beaumont died about 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Fairway Canyon Clubhouse pool in the 36000 block of Champions Drive, according to the Beaumont Police Department.

“Witnesses reported the female had arrived at the pool alone and was seen swimming laps,” according to a police statement.

Minutes later, country club patrons noticed Ghosh was floating face-down in the shallow end of the pool, police said.

Officials said that a good Samaritan pulled her out of the water and initiated CPR while witnesses called 911.

Riverside County Fire Department paramedics reached the location a short time later and also attempted resuscitative measures to no avail. Ghosh was pronounced dead at the scene.

An autopsy was pending to determine why the woman lost consciousness and drowned.
