A man convicted of fatally stabbing his wife — who was found partially in a closet of their North Hollywood apartment — was sentenced Friday to a potential life term in state prison.

A jury found Nick Vedol Lopez, now 52, guilty of first-degree murder for the Feb. 23, 2019, slaying of his wife, Tanya, 52.

Lopez was arrested later that day after being found by Azusa police on the Foothill (210) Freeway “covered in blood,” according to a Los Angeles Police Department sergeant.

Police who responded to the couple’s apartment found a blood trail leading up to the bedroom.

Officers searched the apartment and found the woman’s three grandchildren unharmed and apparently unaware of what had happened.

The motive for the deadly attack was unclear.
