A fire that broke out in a Riverside apartment complex damaged four units, displacing the occupants, none of whom were injured, authorities said Tuesday.

The blaze was reported at about 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Sierra Pines Apartments in the 11100 block of Channing Drive, near La Sierra Avenue, according to the Riverside Fire Department.

Battalion Chief Garrett Coryell said five engine crews and a truck company, numbering more than two dozen personnel, were sent to the location and encountered flames in a downstairs apartment, extending to the second floor.

The fire impacted four apartments altogether before it was stopped 20 minutes later, according to Coryell.

“The cause of the fire was a failure of powered equipment, as the fire originated in a dryer duct and spread into the wall of the apartment,” he said.

Damage to the building was estimated to be $80,000.

Red Cross volunteers were requested to assist the displaced victims with finding temporary lodgings.

The specific number of residents requiring assistance was not disclosed.
