A man wanted for his alleged involvement in multiple armed robberies was shot and wounded by a sheriff’s deputy Monday in Lancaster.

The incident took place just before 9 a.m. in the 44400 block of Sierra Highway, according to Deputy Veronica Rodriguez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

A deputy tried to detain the man who then allegedly pulled out a gun, precipitating the shooting, Rodriguez said.

Paramedics rushed the man to a hospital, where his condition was not immediately known, Rodriguez said.

A gun was recovered at the scene, she said.

Anyone with information regarding the shooting or the suspect was urged to call the sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500 or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
