A 21-year-old convicted burglar was behind bars Tuesday on charges of shooting a teenage boy in Buena Park.

Christopher Angel Perez was charged Monday with attempted murder and possession of a firearm by a felon, both felonies. He also faces sentencing enhancements for inflicting great bodily injury and discharging a firearm causing great bodily injury.

Police were called at 4:53 p.m. Thursday regarding the shooting of the juvenile at 6664 Knott Ave., near the Artesia (91) Freeway, according to Buena Park Police Department Sgt. Mrio Escamilla. The victim was expected to survive his wounds, Escamilla added.

Police were investigating what prompted the shooting, Escamilla said.

Perez, who was being held on $1 million bail, was scheduled to be arraigned Dec. 29 in the North Justice Center in Fullerton.

Perez pleaded guilty to a felony count of burglary, a misdemeanor count of burglary and two misdemeanor counts of vandalism on Oct. 29, 2020.
