A 19-year-old man was charged with causing a fatal DUI crash in Yorba Linda that killed his friend, prosecutors said Friday.

Noah Christopher Cooper Watson of Yorba Linda was charged with a felony count of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and a felony count of carrying a concealed loaded unregistered gun in a vehicle.

Watson is accused of killing his friend, 20-year-old Hunter Shekels, in the crash last Friday night, according to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.

Watson was driving about 100 mph in a Ford F-350 about 10:50 p.m. last Friday when he slammed into a center median and then into a eucalyptus tree on Yorba Ranch Road south of Via Sepulveda, according to prosecutors.

Watson is scheduled to be arraigned Jan. 26 in the North Justice Center in Fullerton.

His attorney, John Barnett, declined comment.
