A 31-year-old man was charged Wednesday with leading police on a drug-fueled chase with a 6-year-old girl in the backseat of his vehicle.

Kevin Gregory Ruff was charged with single counts each of driving under the influence of drugs causing injury, failing to stop at a hit-and-run accident with injury, leading police on a chase, child abuse and endangerment, four counts of identity theft, all felonies, as well as two counts of driving under the influence of a drug causing injury, a count of destroying evidence, driving on a suspended license, and a count of hit and run with property damage, all misdemeanors. He was also cited for not wearing a seat belt, unsafe speed for conditions, driving through a red light, failure to drive on the right half of the road, and a child seat.

Police attempted to pull the defendant over on Friday for a traffic violation, but he kept going, police said. Police quickly stopped the pursuit, but about 60 to 90 seconds later he crashed, police said.

According to the criminal complaint, Ruff tried to get rid of stolen bank checks following the crash.

Ruff pleaded guilty in July 2018 to identity theft, according to court records.
