A 36-year-old man has been arrested in the shooting death of a man in Indio, authorities said Saturday.

Officers responded to the 45-600 block of Smurr Street at about 1:10 a.m. Friday to a report of someone who had just been shot, according to Ben Guitron of the Indio Police Department.

Guitron said that when officers and Cal Fire Riverside personnel arrived at the scene, they found an unidentified man with a gunshot wound, dead in front of a house.

It was unclear whether he had any connection to the residence, Guitron told City News Service.

Police said Indio resident Hilario Muela was identified as the suspect in the killing and arrested.
