Long Beach police promised Saturday that more officers will be available over the weekend to try to prevent a string of commercial burglaries that have plagued the business community.

“In response to recent commercial burglaries, we have additional resources working this weekend to investigate all leads, engage with our business community and increase visibility citywide,” the Long Beach Police Department said on Twitter.

It also offered a list of 14 safety tips for businesses, including making sure the business is well-lit inside and outside, emptying the cash register and leaving the drawer open, locking up electronics, clearing signs and notices out of windows to improve visibility and installing video surveillance and alarm systems.

Police reported three commercial burglaries alone between 4:50 a.m. and 5:45 a.m. Jan. 28, the first in the 2900 block of Clark Avenue and the other two in the 3400 and 3900 blocks of East Fourth Street.

Police believed the incidents were related.
