A wildfire erupted Wednesday on a hillside in the Lake Perris State Recreation Area, scorching over an acre while crews hiked into the preserve.
The non-injury blaze was reported about 12:15 p.m. near the north entrance to the grounds, off of Via Del Lago, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The agency said that multiple engine and hand crews were sent to the location and encountered flames moving down a slope in heavy vegetation at a moderate rate.
Cal Fire air tankers and a water-dropping helicopter were sent to make runs on the brusher.
No homes or other structures were in the immediate vicinity of the brusher.
It was not immediately clear what might have triggered the fire.
