A football game at Mark Keppel High School in Alhambra was called off Friday evening as a precaution because Monterey Park Police were searching for suspects in the area, authorities said.

School administrators made the decision to call off the game against San Gabriel High School, according to a Monterey Park police watch commander who declined to release any other details, including why the suspects were being sought.

Keppel was 0-8 going into the game, while San Gabriel was 2-6 including a victory by forfeit.

It was the second scare at the school Friday after a car theft suspect being chased by police around noon was taken into custody when he ran onto the campus.
