A fire that erupted Wednesday near a high school in Winchester charred roughly two acres before it was stopped.
The non-injury blaze was reported at about 4 p.m. in the area of Garbani and Leon roads, just north of Liberty High School, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The agency said multiple engine and hand crews were sent to the location and encountered flames burning at a moderate rate through medium grass, approaching two structures on the perimeter of the campus, where classes had finished for the day.
A Cal Fire air tanker and water-dropping helicopter made several runs on the fire, stopping its forward rate of spread at 4:25 p.m. and enabling crews to establish tentative containment lines, according to reports from the scene.
No structures were damaged.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
