Los Angeles Police Capt. Andy Neiman, who recently headed the department’s Media Relations Section, has been assigned as the new commanding officer of Van Nuys Patrol Division.

“The department was kind enough to promote me to captain in February …,” Neiman, 52, said in a statement. “I am very excited about my new role, and the challenges that come with this great assignment.”

Los Angeles Police Sgt. Barry Montgomery will serve as the acting head of media relations until Neiman’s successor, Lt. John Jennal, transfers into the division in about 10 days, the department reported.

“Although it was sometimes very difficult to share information that did not portray this great department in the best of light, it was important that we shared information that was necessary to ensure public trust of the people’s police department,” Neiman said.
