Is Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti really running for president?

He is leaving Southern California Friday for a short trip to Las Vegas to attend the fall meeting of the Democratic National Committee.

Garcetti, who is an elected member of the DNC, also plans to hold speaking engagements at a fundraiser for the DNC in support of Democratic candidates nationwide and at the College Democrats of America National Convention. He will also tour a carpenters union training facility.

“Despite the GOP majority in Washington, we Democrats will continue our progress on jobs, equality and fairness in cities across the country as we prepare to take back the House in 2018,” Garcetti said.

The trip is likely to cause more speculation that he is preparing a run for president. The mayor has not ruled out a run when directly asked by reporters in recent months, but also has not ruled out a run for governor next year. A recent trip to New Hampshire — traditionally home to the first presidential primary — to support a local mayoral candidate added to the speculation.

Garcetti is due back in Los Angeles on Saturday.
