Marion “Suge” Knight will get his $10 million bail covered by winnings paid to boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr., should he beat Manny Pacquiao in Vegas tonight, the Los Angeles Times reported last week.
But, the web site TMZsports.com said not so, quoting others in the Mayweather camp.
Knight is jailed on charges of murder, attempted murder and hit-and-run for allegedly running down two men in a Compton parking lot, killing one of them.
Knight’s attorney, Matthew Fletcher, has made repeated efforts to get his client out of jail, but a judge today denied his latest request to have Knight’s bail lowered again.
Fletcher said Thursday that Mayweather and Knight are friends, and the boxer could pony up some of his winnings if he prevails in the fight to help cover Knight’s $10 million bail.
“I think we’re going to have very good luck,” Fletcher said. ” … Hopefully next week … after Floyd Mayweather wins again, I think he’s going to come riding to the rescue.
“There’s a lot of really good things that him and Suge are very close friends — have known each other for a while. Obviously he’s been busy, they’ve both been busy, but I think we will be able to make bail.”
But TMZsports then weighed in, quoting “one of Floyd’s most trusted members of his TMT crew” who said “Suge’s lawyer was just plain wrong.”
The Times has not changed its story.
