Kim Richards, one of the “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills,” is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday on a trio of misdemeanor charges, including public intoxication, stemming from her arrest at a Beverly Hills hotel.
Richards, 50, was arrested around 2 a.m. April 16 after she allegedly refused to leave the Polo Lounge at the Beverly Hills Hotel, according to police and prosecutors.
Richards was charged May 11 with misdemeanor counts of public intoxication, resisting arrest and battery on a peace officer, according to the District Attorney’s Office. She faces up to two years and six months behind bars if convicted, prosecutors said.
Because the counts are misdemeanors, she is not required to appear in court for her arraignment. According to various entertainment-media reports, Richards entered an alcohol-rehabilitation program last week. Her struggles with alcohol have been a recurring topic on “Real Housewives.”
According to Beverly Hills police, officers went to the Polo Lounge in response to a report about a fight. Police said hotel security had repeatedly asked Richards to leave the property, but she went into a restroom and refused to leave.
“Ms. Richards was displaying symptoms of alcohol intoxication, including slurred speech and belligerent insolent behavior, (and) cursing at the officers, and (she) passively resisted arrest,” Beverly Hills police Lt. Lincoln Hoshino said.
She was then taken to the Beverly Hills police station, he said.
“After being transported to the station for booking, Richards kicked one of the officers in the leg,” Hoshino said. “However, the officer was not injured.”
Richards is a former child actress whose credits include the TV series “Nanny and the Professor” and “James at 16” and the Disney movie “Escape to Witch Mountain.”
