At least twice in his term, President Obama called “Daily Show” host Jon Stewart to Washington. Not for a dressing down, but for more of a “What’s up?”

“Stewart slipped unnoticed into the White House in the midst of the October 2011 budget fight, summoned to an Oval Office coffee with President Barack Obama that he jokingly told his escort felt like being called into the principal’s office,” Politico reports.

Another visit occurred in February 2014 for a morning visit hours before Obama warned Russia about its Ukraine intervention.

White House visitor logs and three former Obama aides confirmed the visits.

“As the White House recognized, Stewart can, at times, be a more potent influence on policy than Obama himself,” Politico said. “The 52-year-old funnyman is widely credited with changing how the government treated military veterans and Sept. 11 first responders and for canceling a hyper-partisan CNN talk show.”

Politico also said Obama aides David Axelrod and Austan Goolsbee made sure the White House field calls and emails from Stewart and his staff.
