Movie stars don’t need onions to generate tears. But President Obama does, according to a Fox News contributor who made the claim in the wake of Tuesday’s White House announcements on gun safety efforts.
“I would check that podium for like a raw onion or some no-more-tears,” Andrea Tantaros said regarding Obama’s comments on mass shooting incidents. “I mean, it’s not really believable.”
A YouTube commenter said: “C’mon, Andrea. Cayenne is the go to spice for tears.”

The thing about Andrea Tantaros is that not only does she not understand how empathy works, she also doesn’t understand how onions work.

Meanwhile, the conservative National Review posted a David French piece titled “Why Obama’s Tears Matter.”
“Some accused him of emotional manipulation, while others floated the idea that he used a foreign substance to trigger waterworks on command. But I’m not inclined to question the sincerity of Obama’s tears.”
French concluded: “Barack Obama won’t be the last president to feel this deeply about gun control, and his tears reflect the deep feelings of millions of Americans, including those who effectively control the entertainment consumed by millions more. Politics are downstream from culture. We ignore that reality at our own risk.”
