Movie producer Jon Peters was sued Monday by his ex- wife, who says she was promised in writing that she would receive 10 percent of his income from three “Superman” films.
Mindy Peters is seeking unspecified compensatory and punitive damages on allegations of
breach of a completed gift and unjust enrichment.
A representative for Peters could not be immediately reached for comment on the Los Angeles Superior Court suit.
The couple met in September 1995 when she was a real estate broker and he was looking for property in Santa Ynez, according to the plaintiff. They later moved in together; had a daughter, Kendly, born in April 1998; and married in May 2001. They divorced in 2004, but later reconciled and lived together from November 2006 until November 2009, according to the suit.
The plaintiff alleges that on Christmas Eve 2007, Jon Peters promised her a 10 percent share of “Man of Steel,” “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” and a still unmade third film.
“I love you with all my heart and have for 14 years,” he wrote in making his commitment, according to the lawsuit.
In reliance on the gift agreement, the plaintiff says she continued to be the producer’s best friend, companion and homemaker from 2007 until they ended their relationship.
Mindy Peters believes that Peters began receiving profits from “Man of Steel” in 2014, but has not fulfilled his alleged agreement to pay her.
She also alleges her ex-husband has refused to return numerous pieces of artwork and other personal property taken after they stopped living together.
