Aside from the 1980s pop star rivalry, the two are being compared for their differing views on how to protest Donald Trump.
Wednesday night on Bravo TV, Lauper slammed Madonna’s over-the-top speech at the Women’s March in Washington, which included a remark that she “thought an awful lot about blowing up the White House.”
Lauper, 63 told “Watch What Happens Live” host Andy Cohen that she was glad Madonna, 58, attended, but: “I think it happens a lot, when you are really jacked up on your feelings, your emotions – I don’t think that it served our purpose because anger is not better than clarity and humanity.”
Lauper called Scarlett Johansson‘s speech “clear, and eloquent.”
“Yelling just jacks people up,” she said, “but it doesn’t communicate any kind of humanity or any kind of story that would open another person’s mind.”
On Twitter, Madonna got some love: “So Cyndi Lauper thinks MADONNA’s speech took away from the march? Wrong! The whole point of the march was for women to speak their mind!”
Another motive was suggested: “The best way to understand Madonna’s bitterness is that, despite her success, deep down, she knows Cyndi Lauper was always better.”
Here’s the Madonna speech:
Here’s the growing debate:
Cyndi Lauper falls for Madonna’s 80’s attention-seeking tactics at the #WomensMarch… Madonna was looking to serve her own purpose.
