The late Star Trek actor Anton Yelchin, who was crushed by his SUV in a freak accident, may be making more money dead than when he was alive.
His estate now has assets of about $1.82 million, up some $450,000 from when the actor died in 2016, according to new court papers filed by his parents.
Victor and Irina Yelchin submitted their court papers Monday. The property consists of both real estate and personal property that annually generates about $14,000, their court papers state.
It wasn’t clear what investments or other means allowed the estate value to increase so significantly.
The 27-year-old actor died last June 19 when he was crushed by his Jeep Grand Cherokee in a freak accident in the driveway of his Studio City home. In their original papers filed last July in Los Angeles Superior Court, Yelchin’s parents said the estate had assets of $1.37 million. Their son did not have a will.
Last August, Yelchin’s parents filed a lawsuit against the automaker in Los Angeles Superior Court, alleging that defects in the vehicle led to his death. The case was later transferred to Glendale Superior Court, where the next hearing is scheduled June 30.
Yelchin portrayed Pavel Chekov in the “Star Trek” franchise, including the recent entry, “Star Trek Beyond.”
