Melania Trump was dressed for excessive ridicule Tuesday when she left the White House on a trip to Texas — wearing black snakeskin stilettos.
Her high heels morphed into sneakers by the time Air Force One landed in Corpus Christi, but the damage was done.
Said Robin Givhan of The Washington Post: “It was … an image that suggested that Trump is the kind of woman who refuses to pretend that her feet will, at any point, ever be immersed in cold, muddy, bacteria-infested Texas water. She is the kind of woman who may listen empathetically to your pain, but she knows that you know that she is not going to experience it. So why pretend?”
Said Minda Zetlin of Inc.: “To make matters worse, the First Lady’s short pants–what are commonly referred to as “high-water,” a painful term in this context–made the shoes the highlight of the outfit.”
Said Christina Cauterucci of Slate.com: “By the time Melania disembarked in Corpus Christi, she had changed into white sneakers, a crisp white button-down with a popped collar, and a baseball hat that read “FLOTUS.” On a trip ostensibly made to support people who’ve lost everything and the agencies trying to help them recover, Melania found a way to make her visit about herself. One wonders when that hat will be up for sale on the president’s merch page.”
Of course, the conversation continued.
