Speaking at a school whose mascot is a small, edible turtle, Bob Costas ate football alive.“The reality is that this game destroys people’s brains,” the NBC sports legend said at a symposium. “The cracks in the foundation are there. The day-to-day issues, as serious as they may be, they may come and go.
“But you cannot change the nature of the game. I certainly would not let, if I had an athletically gifted 12- or 13-year-old son, I would not let him play football.”
ESPN’s Tony Kornheiser went further at the University of Maryland panel, according to USA Today.
“It’s not going to happen this year, and it’s not going to happen in five years or 10 years,” he said. “But Bob is right: At some point, the cultural wheel turns just a little bit … and parents say, ‘I don’t want my kids to play.’ And then it becomes only the province of the poor, who want it for economic reasons to get up and out.”
Costas was called out by some.
Bob Costas takes money from NFL Broadcasts up until LAST YEAR now it’s a problem that destroys ppl’s brains. What a phony.

My son asks every day. Unfortunately I️ have to agree with Bob Costas. Loved the game. But I️ also love my son. Difficult decision. https://t.co/6DF8CJJgIg
