The guild also announced that it will present its Distinguished Collaborator Award to “The Shape of Water” director Guillermo del Toro, and a Career Achievement Award to costume designer Joanna Johnston. During her long career Johnston created the clothing worn in six films nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards.
Jeweler and metalworker Maggie Schpak, who is noted for her stunning creations worn by Vulcans and other characters in “Star Trek” films, will receive the Distinguished Service Award.
The ceremony will be held Feb. 20 at the Beverly Hilton.
“Joanna Johnston, Guillermo del Toro and Maggie Schpak have each made their unique mark in our industry and on the world of storytelling,” said Salvador Perez, president of the Costume Designers Guild. “As we commemorate 20 years of applauding the best in costume design, we couldn’t be more excited about honoring their work and thanking them for their contributions.”
Perez hailed Rodriguez for her “wonderful spirit” and her close collaboration with “Jane the Virgin” costume designer Rachel Sage Kunin, saying it sets “the perfect tone for such a celebratory evening.”
