Actress/comedian Aubrey Plaza, best known for her work on NBC’s “Parks and Recreation,” was named Tuesday the host of the 34th Film Independent Spirit Awards.
“It is a dream come true to host a show that celebrates my greatest loves — independent film, the people that make them possible and live television,” Plaza said in a statement through Film Independent.
The Spirit Awards, which recognize the best of independent cinema over the past year, will be presented Feb. 23 in a large tent near the Santa Monica Pier.
Plaza won a Spirit Award earlier this year as a co-producer of the film “Ingrid Goes West.” She currently appears on the FX series “Legion.”
“The search for a great Spirit Awards host is never easy,” Film Independent President Josh Welsh said. “This year we said, let’s fine someone funny, smart, a cinephile, being a great actor wouldn’t hurt, and it would be an added bonus if they’ve previously won a Spirit Award. Then we realized, `Oh wait, that’s Aubrey Plaza.’ So thank you, Aubrey, for hosting the Spirits.”
