Peter Fonda’s widow filed court papers against Providence St. John’s Health Center in Santa Monica and several of its physicians alleging negligence leading up to the actor’s 2019 death.
Margaret Fonda brought the still unofficial lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court. The plaintiff seeks unspecified damages.
Providence Saint John’s Health Center declined to comment.
The plaintiff alleges the doctors failed to properly diagnose and treat the man, who was 79 when he died of respiratory failure after battling cancer at age 79 in August 2019.
His widow alleges the doctors did not order the proper tests and did not properly advise him of more frequent follow-up tests.
From a family of Hollywood stars, Peter Fonda was an actor, director and screenwriter, best known for his role in 1969’s “Easy Rider.” He also was the only son of the late Academy Award-winning Henry Fonda and was the younger brother of actress Jane Fonda.
The court papers identify Fonda’s heirs as his widow, his son, Justin Fonda, and his daughter, 56-year-old actress Bridget Fonda.
