“The Spongebob Movie: Sponge On The Run” grossed $900,000 at 300 theaters in Canada this weekend, according to film industry figures released Sunday.

A handful of independent films were also released this weekend in the United States, where most theaters are still closed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The industry tracking group Comscore, which suspending its regular tally of box office receipts in March, reported Sunday that 1,386 theaters were open in the United States and Canada, 316 of them drive-ins.

Paramount Pictures’ Spongebob movie opened only in Canada, as did the thriller “Unhinged,” starring Russell Crowe, which grossed $582,000 at 271 locations.

For films released in the United States and Canada, Comscore reported the following results:

–“Sputnik” grossed an estimated $12,000 at 32 locations.

— “The Rental” grossed an estimated $78,000 at 144 locations.

— “Made In Italy” grossed an estimated $21,000 at 101 locations.

— “The Tax Collector” grossed an estimated $203,722 at 138 locations.

— “The Silencing” grossed an estimated $44,803 at 76 locations.

— “The Burnt Orange Heresy” grossed an estimated $14,557 at 84 locations.

— “The Big Ugly” grossed an estimated $24,000 at 14 locations.
