KESQ Palm Springs was named best 30-minute newscast in the small market category at the 72nd Annual Golden Mike Awards, organizers announced Sunday.
KESQ is the ABC affiliate for the Coachella Valley.
The awards were presented Saturday night at the Hilton in Universal City by the Radio and Television News Association of Southern California.
In other small market category awards, KUAN San Diego won for best 60-minute newscast, and KCLU Thousand Oaks/Santa Barbara won for best radio newscast under 15 minutes.
In the large market category, KTTV Los Angeles won for the best 30-minute and best 60-minute television newscast, while Spectrum News 1 took the award for best daytime television newscast.
On the radio side, KNX Los Angeles won best radio newscast over 15 minutes, and KFI Los Angeles won best radio newscast under 15 minutes, as the RTNA returned to a live show after the coronavirus pandemic led to a virtual program in 2021.
KABC weatherman Dallas Raines and KCBS/KCAL sportscaster Jim Hill were honored with lifetime achievement awards, as the RTNA returned to a live show after the coronavirus pandemic led to a virtual program in 2021.
The RTNA also presented its 2022 Broadcast Legend Award to Dodgers broadcaster Jaime JarrÃn. JarrÃn is in his 64th and final season as the Spanish-language voice of the Dodgers, and is the longest tenured active announcer in Major League Baseball.
