In a tie vote, “Tár” and “Everything Everywhere All at Once” were named the best films of 2022 Sunday by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association.

The critics group also chose Cate Blanchett and Bill Nighy as best actors for “Tár” and “Living,” respectively, and gave the best director and best screenplay nods to Todd Field for “Tár.”

“Tár” is a drama about a fictional classical music composer-conductor whose life begins to unravel as she’s seemingly at the pinnacle of her career.

Directed by Daniel Kwan, Daniel Scheinert, “Everything Everywhere All at Once” is an action comedy/drama about a Chinese-American immigrant who runs a laundromat and finds herself embroiled in a wild adventure through the multiverse. It stars Michelle Yeah, Ke Huy Quan and Jamie Lee Curtis.

— Best Lead Performance: Cate Blanchett, “Tár,” and Bill Nighy, “Living.”

— Best Director: Todd Field, “Tár.”

— Best Supporting Performers: (tie) Dolly de Leon, “Triangle of Sadness and Ke Huy Quan, “Everything Everywhere All at Once.”

— Best Screenplay: Todd Field, “Tár.”

— Best Cinematography: Michal Dymek, “EO.”

— Best Editing: Blair McClendon, “Aftersun.”

— Best Production Design: Dylan Cole, Ben Procter for “Avatar: The Way of Water.”

— Best Music/Score: M.M. Keeravani, “RRR.”

— Best Documentary/Non-Fiction Film: “All the Beauty and the Bloodshed.”

— Best Animated Film: Guillermo Del Toro’s “Pinocchio.”

— Best Film Not in the English Language: “EO.”

— Douglas Edwards Experimental Film Prize: “De Humani Corporis Fabrica.”

The awards were announced on Twitter. All the winners will be honored during a ceremony on Jan. 14, 2023, when filmmaker Claire Denis will receive a career achievement award.

Founded in 1975, the LAFCA comprises Los Angeles-based, professional film critics working in print and electronic media. Last year, the group named Japanese director Ryusuke Hamaguchi’s drama “Drive My Car” as the best film of 2021.

On Dec. 2, the New York Film Critics Circle named “Tár” the best film of 2022.
