The Coast Guard is searching for a plane that departed from Catalina Island over the weekend and was bound for Van Nuys Airport, but never arrived.
A single-engine Cessna 172 took off from Catalina Island Airport on Saturday and was reported overdue when it failed to arrive at its destination, said Ian Gregor, a spokesman with the Federal Aviation Administration.
The FAA then alerted the Coast Guard, which is conducting the search, he said.
