Recreation and senior centers, and other air-conditioned cooling facilities around the San Fernando Valley will offer extend hours starting Sunday to give residents a place to escape to during triple-digit temperatures anticipated this weekend.
Temperatures are forecast to climb sharply beginning on Saturday, and Monday is expected to be the hottest day, with temperatures ranging between 100 and 110 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
These Recreation and Parks Department facilities will open at noon and stay open until 9 p.m., past regular business hours, starting on Sunday:
- Canoga Park Senior Citizen Center, 7326 Jordan Avenue, in Canoga Park, (818) 340-2633.
- Lanark Recreation Center, 21816 Lanark St., in Canoga Park, (818) 883-1503.
- Lake View Terrace Recreation Center, 11075 Foothill Blvd., in Lake View Terrace, (818) 899-8087.
- North Hollywood Recreation Center, 11430 Chandler Blvd., in North Hollywood, at (818) 763-7651.
- Mid Valley Senior Center at Sepulveda Recreation Center, 8801 Kester Ave., in Panorama City, (818) 893-3700.
- Sherman Oaks/East Valley Adult Center, 5060 Van Nuys Blvd., in Sherman Oaks, (818) 386-9674.
- And Sunland Park Senior Center, 8640 Fenwick St., in Sunland, (818) 353- 9571.
Los Angeles will be under an excessive heat warning issued by the National Weather Service that will be in place from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday.
County officials also have issued a heat alert for the San Fernando Valley, Los Angeles Basin, Santa Clarita Valley and the East San Gabriel Valley, lasting from Sunday through at least Tuesday, perhaps longer.
