Applications for the 2017 Tournament of Roses Royal Court will be available beginning Monday, August 1.
Young women from the Pasadena area who meet the eligibility requirements are invited to apply and take part in initial interview sessions, which will be held Sept. 10 and 12.
To be eligible, applicants must be female, aged 17-21; unmarried and without children; reside in the Pasadena Area Community College District; a full-time student in the Pasadena area; and possess at least a 2.0 grade-point average.
All applicants who participate in the initial interview session will receive tickets for the Sept. 23 Royal Ball. According to organizers, about 1,000 women try out each year, but only seven are chosen as members of Royal Court. The court will be announced Oct. 4.
After initial interviews, about 250 women are invited back for a second round of tryouts, 75 women for a third round and 25 candidates for the final round.
The coronation of the 99th Rose Queen, who is chosen from the seven members of the court, is scheduled to take place Oct. 20.
The Royal Court will ride on a float in the 128th Rose Parade, themed “Echoes of Success,” and attend the 103rd Rose Bowl Game on Jan. 2. The queen and princesses also attend dozens of community and media events leading up to the parade and game.
