A small power outage caused by squirrels cut electricity to 149 homes and businesses near Hacienda Heights Sunday, according to a utility spokeswoman.

The outage hit at about 12:50 p.m. and was caused by damage from squirrels, Southern California Edison spokeswoman Jude Schneider told City News Service.

The affected area was bounded by Banida Drive on the west; Waterfall Way on the south; Pacific Oaks on the north and east of Golden Coast Lane on the east, Schneider continued.

Crews were working to repair the rodents’ damage, and no firm estimate of complete repairs was available, Schneider said. It might be as late as 7:30 p.m., she said.
