A man was seriously burned Monday in a fire that damaged a hillside house in the Los Feliz area and left his dog dead, authorities said.
Firefighters were sent to the 3700 block of West Evans Street about 9:45 a.m., said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
“There was no immediate evidence of a functional smoke alarm in the home,” he said late Monday morning. “The fire’s cause remains the focus of an active LAFD investigation.”
It took crews 21 minutes to extinguish the blaze, which damaged the street level of the two-story “descending” home on the hillside, Humphrey said.
Paramedics took the 27-year-old man to a hospital in serious condition, the LAFD reported. His dog died at the scene.
The man lived at the residence with three other people, Humphrey said.
