An exterior ammonia leak was reported Friday at a commercial food processing plant in Vernon, prompting the evacuation of the facility.
The leak was reported about 4:10 p.m. and fire crews arrived on scene in the 3000 block of East 44th Street, near South Soto Street, at 4:15 p.m., according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
The plant’s occupants were safely evacuated, and no injuries were reported, the department reported.
Firefighters conducted atmospheric monitoring at the scene and determined there was no threat to public health, and by 5 p.m., the leak was stopped, according to the department.
The cause of the leak was not released.
