A tanker truck veered off the Harbor (110) Freeway Thursday afternoon and rolled onto Vermont Avenue in an unincorporated area near Harbor City, sending two people with minor injuries to a hospital.
Just before 4 p.m., the tanker truck was southbound on the freeway, veered off and rolled down to Vermont, according to Nicholas Prange of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The truck’s driver and a driver of a sedan that was involved in the crash but remained on the freeway were taken to a hospital in fair condition, Prange and the Los Angeles County Fire Department said. Information about how the second vehicle was involved was not available from the fire department or the California Highway Patrol.
The tanker truck leaked about 75 gallons of diesel fuel from its saddle tank, prompting a hazmat team to respond, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department, which took over command of the incident, as the truck rolled from the southbound side of the freeway into the county’s jurisdiction in the 24500 block of Vermont, he said.
