A senior citizen died Monday after being taken to a hospital from a house fire in South Los Angeles.
The blaze broke out about 5:30 p.m. in the two-story home in the 2500 block of South Ninth Avenue, near the Santa Monica (10) Freeway, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department’s Brian Humphrey.
Ninety-four firefighters extinguished the flames in the 3,324-square-foot home by about 6:15 p.m., and an “elder female resident was determined dead shortly after being transported by LAFD paramedics to an area hospital,” Humphrey said. Her name was not released.
A firefighter suffered exertion and was examined at the scene, according to Humphrey.
The cause of the fire was being investigated.
