A woman who was struck by three vehicles and died on the northbound Harbor (110) Freeway downtown was publicly identified Saturday and her death ruled a suicide.
Jasmin Vallecillo, 32, was a Los Angeles resident, according to the coroner’s office and California Highway Patrol.
The fatal crash happened about 4:50 a.m. Oct. 22 on the northbound Harbor Freeway at Third Street, the CHP said.
But the incident started about five minutes earlier with a report that Vallecillo was walking on the freeway. Arriving officers found her lying in the No. 2 lane after she was struck by multiple vehicles and a Chevrolet Silverado pickup was found disabled with major damage nearby.
Officers learned she was walking in lanes, stopped a motorist and got into the vehicle.
“While inside the vehicle, the pedestrian made multiple threats of suicide to the driver before she exited the vehicle and continued to run across northbound lanes of the I-110,” the CHP said in a press release. “Three motorists reported colliding with the pedestrian, with one of the three vehicles sustaining major front-end damage and becoming disabled at the scene.”
Vallecillo was pronounced dead at the scene, the CHP said.
