It took firefighters 24 minutes to put out heavy flames Monday morning in a two-story apartment building in the Vermont Knolls area of Los Angeles.
It was reported at 5:23 a.m. at 1015 W. 85th St., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department’s Margaret Stewart.
The fire was in a second floor apartment of the center hall building, Stewart said. Flames could be seen through the roof via the attic on two sides of the building in a FOX11 video.
The blaze was given Greater Alarm status and up to 78 firefighters were assigned but the first arriving units put out the flames before the additional resources arrived, she said.
No injuries were reported and the rest of the building and surrounding structures were protected from the flames, Stewart said.
Building inspectors have been summoned to determine which tenants, if any, can return and when because utilities were shut off for safety, she said.
